About Mike Sutton, PE

Mike Sutton is a Professional Engineer (Montana, License #PEL-PE-LIC-71998) with nearly two decades of experience across mechanical, energy, and process engineering. His work spans Senior Mechanical Engineer roles at HDR Engineering, Senior Utilities and Pressurized Systems Engineering at GlaxoSmithKline's Hamilton, MT vaccine manufacturing site, Midstream Engineer at Anadarko Petroleum's gas plants and compressor stations in Colorado and Texas, Electrical Foreman for Anadarko Petroleum in Gillette, WY.

He holds a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, both from Montana State University, and has led major energy reduction projects, system optimization, solar implementation, high voltage electrical systems, HVAC, and process safety initiatives throughout his career.

His compression optimization work was featured in The American Oil and Gas Reporter: "Compression Optimization Improves Performance of Gathering Systems."

AI & Simulation-Driven Optimization

Pairing Claude Code, Anthropic's AI coding agent, with DWSIM process simulation software to model, test, and optimize mechanical and process systems faster than traditional manual workflows allow.

AI-Accelerated Engineering

Using Claude Code to build and iterate on process flowsheets, automate repetitive modeling tasks, and rapidly compare design alternatives that would otherwise take days of manual setup.

DWSIM Process Simulation

Flowsheet modeling of refrigeration cycles, chilled water and utility systems, and other process equipment to verify performance, size components, and de-risk designs before capital is committed.

System & Energy Optimization

Side-by-side comparison of operating conditions, equipment selection, and working fluids to identify the most efficient and cost-effective option — for example, evaluating ammonia versus propane refrigeration cycles on compressor work, condenser/evaporator duty, and discharge temperature before recommending a system.
